I’m always hesitant to use superlatives to describe food. I mean, how do I know that it is indeed the best of the best in the whole entire world?
Like every other baker, I’m on the hunt for THE chocolate chip cookie. I have 3 simple criteria: chewy, soft, and a subtle hint of a caramel undertone. The closest that I’ve ever come to finding my favourite CCC was the cook’s illustrated recipe and a browned butter ccc recipe. Those were good recipes and they satisfied my undying craving for CCCs… but then I came across Alice’s recipe.
I saw her recipe over at Two Peas and Their Pod a couple years back when Maria, a fellow cookie monster, featured it on her blog. I knew it must be good to get a feature, but I never tried it out because the recipe says to weigh out the ingredients… ain’t nobody got time fo dat!
So I kept the recipe bookmarked for a couple of years before I finally tried it out. I didn’t weigh out the ingredients even though it was recommended (rebel status) but fortunately the cookies turned out nothing less than fantastical! Seriously, these cookies changed my life! I think I may have found THE chocolate chip cookie recipe for me. I don’t know how you did it Alice, but your cookies sure do live up to the “best ccc” title. It might have been the salted butter or the touch of sea salt instead of regular table salt. Or maybe because I used chocolate chunks instead of chocolate chips, but dayummmm these cookies were thebomb.com.
If you’re on the hunt for a good ccc, I highly recommend this one!
I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I haaaated this recipe when I made it. I mean…I ate them. So I didn’t really hate em. But they were my least favorite of all the cookies I’ve made, I wonder if I did something wrong, or maybe that was just my preference?
hmmm thats weird! maybe it was the salt? i know a lot of ppl that hate the salty sweet combo
No I adore the salty-sweet. I just didn’t like the texture and found the flavor to be unremarkable
i should prob try them again just to confirm. i tend to like things a lot the first time around 😛
I also just may be weird lol
I LOVE CCC!!!!! I swear that the ones I make are the best..I SWEAR by it!! Although, this was before I went vegan and I haven’t found a way to make them QUITE as fluffy with a vegan version. I will not stop until the recipe is perfected!! These look so good, choc chunks always make the cookies better!
i don’t know what it is about ccc’s, they’re so simple but i like them way more than any other dessert
iunno anything bout vegan baking, but maybe a combo of oil and vegan butter spread?
So Connie, does this mean your search is over? For me, no matter how good a CCC is, I keep on looking. The search is just too much fun 🙂
nevahhh!!! the search will never be over! ahaha!
Your “ain’t nobody got time for dat” reminded me of this video (;

But perfecting the CCC is crucial!
wrong video sorry – this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=po3jPq5LT0g
but the goats is quite funny too
LOLOL omg i love that vid! a friend showed it to me too a couple weeks ago. seriously, whoever came up with that is a musical genius!
I completely agree!
That looks really good!
mmm yum! I get crapped on by some people every time I declare something as the best on my food blog. Not moist enough. Too moist. Not soft enough. Too soft. Too sweet. Not enough chocolate. Yah. You can’t please everyone. A blog is about the tastes of the person who writes it. I will definitely have to investigate this recipe. My fave CCC recipe incorporates bread flour and involves “aging” the dough in the fridge 24 hours. So much trouble…but good
